Abstract Submissions

The Australasian Doctors’ Health Conference (ADHC) Scientific Committee is now calling for  abstracts for the ADHC 2022 to be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre in Adelaide, South Australia from 1st – 3rd December 2022.

Submitted abstracts should represent original work that is either unpublished or only published within the last year.  The Scientific Committee will allocate abstracts to either a workshop, oral or poster presentation unless the author indicates a specific preference for poster presentation.

Oral Presentations.

2.5 hour workshops

Workshops will be held on Thursday, 1st Decemeber 2022

15 minute 'themed' presentations

Presentations are comprised of a 12-minute presentation and 3 mintues for questions and answers, as part of the three themed conference streams.

6 minute 'plenary' presentations

Titled “6 in 6”, presenters will have a time-limit of 6 minutes with no more than 6 slides to present with impact to a much larger audicence.

Poster Presentations.

Poster presentations will enable the presentation of new research, programs and projects to the conference registrants.

Posters are to be printed and brought along to the Conference by the presenter (up to a maximum size of 1.82m W x 1.82m H).  Presenters should bring their own Velcro or pins to affix the posters to the poster boards provided.


Abstracts should relate to the conference theme of “The Thriving Doctor: towards harmony, productivity and longevity” and focus on the following three key areas, in order to be given preference for inclusion in the program.

These will allow the conference to explore current and future models of care and how doctors’ health can be embedded at the individual, organisational and broader health system level.


Self-care, preparation for work, ways to remain a sustainable individual, ways to thrive, the ‘interesting working week’, personal and professional support, creativity, mindfulness, physiology, broader life roles, new frontiers in self-care.


Workplaces, work practices, work environments, challenging workplaces, rural and remote doctors’ health, impact of doctors’ health on recruitment and retention, autonomy and the ideal working week, fatigue physiology and mitigation, innovative initiatives and work-models, futuristic workplaces, peer support and mentoring, new frontiers.

The System

How and where leadership has enacted change; accreditation as a doctors’ health quality improvement tool; work-models that support doctors’ health and wellbeing; innovative solutions that are making a difference; work, health and safety; role of governance in driving positive change; impact of medical board processes on doctors’ health; role of medical defence organisations; new frontiers and best practice.

Review Process.

All abstracts will be reviewed by the ADHC 2022 Scientific Committee within four weeks of the closing date.  Where abstracts need to be amended, you will be invited by the Scientific Committee to re-submit these with any suggested changes.  This will enable the Scientific Committee to use the amendment process to assist authors improve the quality and value of their abstract.

To consolidate the conference program, all presenters must register for a minimum of one day of the conference by the Early Bird Registration Deadline 25th April 2022 to avoid withdrawal of the presentation from the program.

Formatting Requirements.

Abstracts should be submitted online using the abstract template provided by 15th December using the following guidelines:

    • 250 words or less, exclusive of title, author(s) names and institutional affiliation(s)
    • All submissions in Microsoft Word
    • Abstracts should fit onto a single A4 page
    • Use 11-point Arial font
    • Abstract title in BLOCK CAPITALS
    • Authors’ names on the next line
    • In the case of more than one author, name of presenting author to be underlined.
    • Do not include degrees or titles.
    • Authors’ organisations/institutions should include the suburb/city, state and country of the organisation/institution
    • Avoid using abbreviations unless these are defined in the abstract
    • Ensure use of high quality English expression and grammar
    • DO NOT include any tables, graphs or images with your abstract(s)

Submitted abstracts can be edited any time prior to submission deadline.


    • This should be succinct and descriptive of the study/ presentation


    • Give a brief reason for the study. Provide a clear statement of the aims of the study/paper.


    • Give a short description of the study population or specimen preparation, data collection and processing.


    • Important statistical results (such as confidence intervals, values or correlation coefficients) should be included.


    • Make simple statements that are supported by the evidence shown in your results.


Prizes will be awarded at the closing session.  A prize will be awarded for each of the following categories:

    • Best Oral Presentation – Scientific
    • Best Oral Presentation – Quality / Outcomes
    • Best Poster – Scientific
    • Best Poster – Quality / Outcomes

Abstract(s) Submission.

Responsibility for the accuracy of the abstracts and the agreement of co-authors with the content of the abstracts rests with the principal author.

    • The presenting authors of successful abstracts need to register and pay to attend and present at the Conference
    • All abstracts will be reviewed by members of the ADHC 2022 Scientific Committee whose decisions are final.
    • Disclosure of any conflict of interest and sources of funding for research must be made by the authors of an abstract.
